Impakt Events Management deputy director Jonny Zembani Banda has said the company has the  capacity to handle multiple events in a year without compromising on quality of delivery.

He said this in an interview yesterday in the wake of the incoming Sand Arts Festival which the company rolls out on May 27 at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi.

Banda: We can handle these events perfectly

The new festival becomes the third under the company after Sand Music Festival and Sand Music Gospel Concert which was unveiled last year.

Banda, son to legendary musician Lucius Banda, said the introduction of Sand Arts Festival will not have implications on the existing events since the execution models are different. He said Impakt Events Management has the capacity to deliver as many events as they can.

“Experience has proven that we can handle all these events perfectly. The capacity lies on the availability of sponsors and our audience. If the people can handle it, we have no problem in setting up as many events as possible,” he said.

Unlike the other two events, the newly introduced Sand Arts Festival appears to be more inclusive as it has different art facets such as drama, poetry, comedy, visual art as well as music.

Another notable change is the absence of international artists as the new event will solely feature local artists.

Banda said they have deliberately brought out a different feel to it.

The deputy director said: “The difference is the nature of how it will be executed. There are various art disciplines that have been incorporated in the new festival. We thought of coming up with another platform which will have all forms of art appreciated.”

He said they view the festival as a way to celebrate local artists who have most of the times shone whenever they host events.

“It is a pity that in most cases people feel an event is incomplete if does not feature an international artist. In the future we may include international acts, but in different fields and not just music. But we felt that this year we should launch it with our local acts,” said Banda.

Seasoned music promoter Jai Banda, who is also a legal practitioner, said the idea of giving a platform to local artists is welcome, but they need the support of all Malawians.

He said: “That has always been something that I have personally stood for. For us to break into the international market we need to support these local artists. I can only implore on Malawians to patronise the event because that is only when it will be meaningful.”

Some of the artists billed to take part in the inaugural event include Zeze Kingston, Kell Kay, Wendy Harawa, Nepman, Mlaka Maliro, Black Missionaries Band, Malinga, Sean Morgan, Q Malewezi, Eli Njuchi, Anthony Makondetsa, Keturah, Che Mandota, Phyzix, Mr Jokes, YDC Theeatre Group, among others.
