Joggers group support Dedza health centre
Thousands of patients in Dedza are a step closer to reliable healthcare after Joggers on the Move (JOM) raised K16 million through its annual marathon to fund solar power installation at Bema Health Centre.
For years, the facility has struggled without electricity, forcing health care workers to treat patients in the dark and compromising maternal and child care. This year’s marathon, held under the theme ‘Fitness with a purpose,’ sought to change that.

Speaking ahead of the event, JOM chairperson Kondwani Kalichero said the initiative goes beyond fitness.
“Our run this year is not just about sport; it is about lighting up Bema Health Centre and giving hope to communities who deserve better healthcare,” he said.
The 2025 race, from Kabudula Trading Centre to the Gateway Mall in Lilongwe, drew over 30 participants in each of the 42km, 21km, 10km and 5km categories.
Winners included Kefasi Kasiten and Mude Bodza in the men’s and women’s 42km races, respectively.
Youth and Sports Principal Secretary Isaac Katopola, who graced the event, applauded JOM for showing how sport can directly improve community welfare.
“This is the kind of innovation that proves sport is not only about competition, but also about development,” he said.
Since 2018, JOM has blended running with philanthropy, with previous marathons funding projects such as the 2024 solar installation at Matekenya Health Centre in Dowa.
