If I were

John Tembo (Part II)

President of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), I would appreciate that my offering to step down, other than just quitting, is in itself, a confirmation that I did not make the offer wholeheartedly and that I still want to stay at the helm of the party.

If I were JZU, I would appreciate that if seven of the 25 members that attended the meeting that was held at my residence were of the view that I step down, then I have every reason to sit back and conduct some soul-searching over my insistence on remaining in active politics.

How I wish I were baba Tembo, because I would also realise that as an interested party, I was not supposed to attend the meeting and let alone host it.

I would realise that there was no way the members would have expressed their genuine views freely in my presence; hence, some might have endorsed my continuity out of fear.

If only I were John Tembo, I would realise that no amount of explanation will change people’s views that I am imposing myself on the party’s leadership even when the writing is on the wall—that my time is up!

I would appreciate, if I were ‘Puludzu’, that this is the time for me to enjoy thobwa while playing chipako with my grandchildren in the comfort of my mansion’s yard in Dedza in the cool breeze from the mountain.

That is of course, if I were Hon. John Tembo. Unfortunately, I am just a mere scribe that is Garry Chirwa.
