K51m CBCC set to promote early learning in Nkhata Bay
Nkhata Bay District Council has commended Livingstonia Synod of the Church of Central Africa for constructing a K51 million community-based childcare centre (CBCC) structure in Traditional Authority (T/A) Zilakoma in Nkhata-Bay District.
Speaking on Wednesday during the commissioning of the structure, Nkhata Bay district director of health and social services Topcy Mdolo, who was also the guest of honour, said the structure was durable and will provide quality services to children.
He said the project is important in shaping the development of a child to secure a bright future and contribute positively to the country’s development.
“This is an important project as it is targeting early childhood development. Mental and physical development, relationship building with fellow children. As the children grow, they become knowlegeable compared with those who have not gone through such experience,” said Mdolo.
He urged people to take ownership of the structure.
Livingstonia Synod Aids Programme monitoring and evaluation officer Gilbert Phiri said they constructed the structure to address the problem of early learning in the area.
“We expect community members to come up with plans to sustain the infrastructure,” he said.
T/A Zilakoma said community members formed a committee to take care of the facility.
Help a Child Malawi country director Ted Tadeyo Chauluka, whose organization funded the project, said they will continue supporting government’s efforts to promote early childhood development
