Kabambe urges Muslims to pray for flood victims

UTM president Dalitso Kabambe yesterday urged Muslims to use Eid al-Fitr celebrations to pray for those affected by heavy rains that have killed some people and left thousands destitute.

He made the appeal at ASUM Mvunguti Mosque in Chinsapo, where he attended Eid prayers marking the end of Ramadan.

Kabambe said Malawians must unite in prayer over the many challenges facing the country, including the high cost of living, economic turmoil and unemployment. He also called on leaders to take action and find solutions to uplift citizens and reduce poverty.

“We have seen flash floods that have affected most parts of the country. Many of our friends, brothers and relatives have lost their lives, while others have lost property. We need to pray for them. People are crying over the high cost of living and services in this country and the majority cannot find jobs,” Kabambe said.

Bloc leader James Mussa said the prayers provided an opportunity to remember those facing various hardships, including flood victims and Muslims affected by the war in the Middle East.

“Our relatives in areas affected by floods have not had the chance to pray as we have done today. We have been praying for them,” he said.

Eid al-Fitr is the Muslim festival that marks the end of 30 days of fasting and prayer during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

Prayers were held across the country to mark the occasion.
