The weekend began on a good note for Gabriel Kambale and Noel Lipipa when the two partnered to win the Pius X11 Seminary Fundraising Golf Tournament at the Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) on Friday.

Under the veil of their respective company names GK Associates and Parts Link respectively, the two had a strong partnership on the greens where they hit six birdies to emerge champions of the 40-player contest with 45 points.

Even their runners-up, Real Insurance’s duo of Kanjeza Kamwendo and Harold Lungu [44 points] or third-placed Toyota Malawi team of Webster Kaunga and Zacharia Hara [42 points] could not be as elated as the champions in this event aimed at raising funds for the maintenance of the Catholic school which is succumbing to old age.

“It is through giving that we receive,” Kambale stated as he walked to the podium alongside Lipipa to receive their trophies from the guest of honour Father Enock Kanjira.

“As a Catholic, I am so excited and proud of this achievement.”

William Mabulekesi, who organised the event after hearing about the needs of the 49-year-old institution, said the event raised more than their projected K1.5 million (US$3, 105).

“We expected to raise K1.5million from this event, but we have made at least K1.7 million. We are thankful to the golfers for realising that they have a responsibility to plough back into the community,” he said.

According to Father Kanjira, the money realised from the tournament will be used to maintain broken windows, shower rooms, toilets, gutters and other areas that might need repairs at the seminary which is based in Nguludi, Chiradzulu.

“The seminary is very old and there are so many areas that need to be repaired. Thanks for digging deeper into your pockets for this noble cause. May the Lord bless you abundantly,” he said.
