Visual artist and curator Elson Kambalu is running three weeks art exhibition in Zomba.

Titled the Rediscovery, the exhibition will be held at the Chocolate Factory from June 11 to 7 July.

Kambalu: The exhibition is very important to me

“I decided to dedicate the next 10 years [2021-2031] to work on my art. I am excited that I will be holding my solo exhibition in Zomba,” said the artist in an interview.

He explained that the exhibition marks the beginning of throwing himself into uncharted waters.

“The exhibition is very important to me considering that the past 10 years or so saw me promoting other artists’ work and less of me. This is the beginning of a decade of self-discovery. My attempt to stretch myself to areas I have never been to,” said Kambalu.

The exhibition will have 25 new works which are connected to the artist at a personal level.

He said:“This is a combination of my portraits which I have been developing the past year and abstract work. Subjects range from myself trying to rediscover a new identity amidst a crisis that has changed so many aspects of our lives and overcoming despair plus redefining boldness.

“I am excited and very proud of myself that despite the painful and difficult times we went through, I managed to create almost 60 paintings and more than 100 drawings, though only 25 will be on display.”

The news has excited his fans who are looking forward to the exhibition.

“This is exciting and encouraging and refreshing considering the times we are living in,” said  Chifundo Phiri.
