Sunday was Esau ‘Black Mamba’ Kanyenda’s turn to hog the limelight in South African football when he helped his side Polokwane City beat Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-1 in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) match.

This was Kanyenda’s third league goal and a second in a row as he was also on target in the 3-0 thumping of University of Pretoria a fortnight ago.

According to South African media, Kanyenda put Polokwane ahead just before the break.

A Route One ball was headed onto Puleng Tlolane who then played Kanyenda through on goal. The Polokwane man was then able to get to the ball ahead of Bafana Nhlapo, who rushed off his line, poked it under the keeper from the edge of the box, to make it 1-0. Aces equalised in the 54th minute.

Polokwane have since moved a step up the ladder to 11th with 14 points from 13 games.

Second-half substitute Thobani Mncwango scored the winning goal for Polokwane with his first touch of the game.

On Saturday, Flames midfield maestro Robert ‘Baggio’ Ng’ambi also inspired his team Platinum Stars to their second silverware this season when they beat Orlando Pirates 2-1 to lift the Telkom Knockout Cup.

Last week, strikers Gabadinho Mhango and Atusaye Nyondo were also on target for their teams Bloemfontein Celtic and University of Pretoria when they beat Golden Arrows (3-0) and Free State Stars (3-1) respectively.

Gabadinho’s compatriot and Flames defence pillar Limbikani ‘Pupa’ Mzava was also outstanding in that match.
