Karonga district commissioner Willard Mwambo has cautioned contractors tasked to construct infrastructure in Karonga Lufilya Constituency against delivering substandard structures.
He said this on Monday during a handover of construction sites to three contractors under the Reformed K5 billion Constituency Development Fund projects.
Mwambo also told the contractors to complete the project within agreed timeframe, saying delays will not be entertained.
He assured the community that the contractors committed to deliver quality projects.
“Let us support them because they have shown the capacity that they have equipment and resources to do quality work,” said Mwambo.
Senior Chief Kilupula said he will monitor the projects to ensure compliance with guidelines.
Karonga District Council director of economic planning and development Gildrate Kavalo urged community leaders to focus on bigger projects for the area.
“You should plan to implement big projects that will have a huge impact in service delivery. Projects such as school blocks and health facilities are crucial,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the contractors, Uhulu and Evance Civil Engineering managing director Salimu Surtee assured people of their commitment to deliver quality projects.
“We know how important the projects are to the people of this area, as such, we will not do a shoddy job,” he said.
Karonga District Civil Society Organisations Network chairperson Edgar Phiri said they will uphold transparency and accountability throughout the projects’ implementation.
