Kasungu earns Skeffa praise

Musician Skeffa Chimoto kicked his tight festival schedule on Thursday at Kasungu’s Culture Club and it seemed to be the perfect choice.

Being a district best known for agriculture, the show seemed to be heading for a flop, especially after it got its first ‘real planting’ rains earlier in the day. The scheduling of the show on a Thursday was also a concern among the working few.

However, Kasungu fans could not let the Chinamuluma Chakuda star; the-man-of-the- moment in music circles, just pass them by.

They thronged in their numbers to the entertainment joint and had to brave the chilly night weather from the after-rain breeze and parted with K1 500 (US$4) for a glimpse of the star and his Real Sounds Band.

Skeffa’s on stage exploits, the recent-release of his latest album, coupled with Kasungu’s entertainment-starved fans combined well to make the night memorable.

“I have to say I have just been baffled. Looking at my busy schedule over the festive season, there wasn’t any time appearing for a show in Kasungu. But I have always felt the support you always give me. I am not talking of large crowds patronising my shows, but it’s the love that I feel from you that I am here to salute you for. I just couldn’t afford ignoring you until mid-January. You, too, deserve some special treat and this one goes out to all in Kasungu. You are special to me,” he said soon after appearing on stage.

But once the salutations were over, Skeffa turned the heat on his band and his doubters alike by dishing the best hits throughout.

Like a true stage-master, he always seemed to know his audience and maintained his voice composure.
