Katoto win MZ FMB Cup

Katoto United FC finished top of the Mzuzu City First Merchant Bank (FMB) Knock-out Cup after beating Mzuzu Police Youth 2-0 in the finals at Mzuzu Stadium on Monday.

Nickson Mwase and Francis Nohito were on target in the 39th and 48th minutes to claim the top spot of the tournament which attracted 16 teams.

Said coach Kondwa Ikwanga: “I am excited to have won this title. We [worked hard] and here we are today celebrating.”

His counterpart Buluzi Nkhoma admitted it was just not their day. He wished Katoto United the best.

Katoto United will cart home K100 000 (about $250) for their feat whereas runners up Mzuzu Police will get K50 000 (about $125).

Super Dynamos finished third whereas former champions Mzuzu City Rangers came fourth.

Katoto will face Nkhata Bay champions Mkondezi Research in the regional FMB Cup competition on April 6 at Mzuzu Stadium.

Meanwhile, Northern Region Youth Football Committee Mwawi Mwanza has bemoaned age-cheating which he alleged was being perpetrated by some club officials who would like to win games with ease.
