Ng’onamo needs two strikers

Bullets FC coach Eddington Ng’onamo says he is desperate to beef up his striking force ahead of the new season.

He says his two main forwards, Gabadinho Mhango and Divason Mlozi, will be busy with academic commitments in the first round.

Mhango is set to sit for Junior Certificate examinations in two months’ time whereas Mlozi will be completing his diploma course at the Natural Resources College.

Ng’onamo said the two will not play a big role for the team, hence the need to fill the gap.

“The development will only leave us with Heston Munthali as the main striker who will be with us full time. So, we don’t want to take any chances.

“But we are not targeting any big-name players. We will look from the FMB Under 20 or regional leagues and find promising young strikers who will be nurtured for the big job at Bullets,” said Ng’onamo.

He also said he will sign at least two midfielders, a centre-back and a goalkeeper.

“We did well last season and people expect us to maintain the squad and not bring in new players. But we had problems in positions where we had one player. We want to have at least two players in every position to increase competition,” he said.

Having won the Presidential Cup and finished second in the league on mere goal difference last season, Ng’onamo is targeting a league title and at least two cups this year.

“Our target was to finish in the top four and we beat the expectations with a second-place finish. This year, we will go flat out for the championship and at least two other cups. With the support we get from the Bullets family, we can easily accomplish that,” he said.

Meanwhile, reports from Bullets indicate that midfielder Henry Kabichi has gone on absent without leave.

The player is nowhere to be seen since the team returned from Mzuzu two weeks ago where they lost to Silver in a ceremonial Presidential Cup launch game.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the player has travelled to Mozambique in search of greener pastures.
