Lawi offers Independence Day present

After enduring a prolonged wait for his new album, fans of Afro-jazz artist Lawi will today have a reason to smile.

The Lilongwe-based artist will unveil his latest album ,Thirties, this evening at Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre.

Lawi: The production of the album required a lot time

In an interview ahead of the launch, Lawi said the delay was due to the numerous back and forth processes that the album had to undergo during its production stage.

Thirties took long because as any great thing it required a lot of time. I needed to give it ample time and inevitably there was going to be a lot of time to get the project into the right direction. From the writing process, the production in the studio and all that,” he said.

Today, the Whistling Song creator will not step on the Sunbird Mount Soche alone, accompanying him will be seasoned gospel music star Ethel Kamwendo Banda, Joyful Souls and Chanco Alumni Catholic Choir.

Lawi could not hide his excitement on the prospect of lining up alongside Kamwendo Banda, whom she referred to as his aunt.

“She is someone who has provided guidance to most of us in the industry. I have been inspired, I have been blessed to meet her and work with her. I am looking forward to sharing the stage with her,” he said.

On her part,Kamwendo Banda said it will be an honour to perform on the stage with Lawi and has called on her fans to come in their numbers to support him.

She said: “This will be a moment of victory. Ministering together with Lawi will be wonderful. I have prepared thoroughly for the performance and I can assure my fans of a good musical experience.”

In 2019, Lawi announced the commencement of the recording of Thirties. But it has taken the artist three years to unveil what will be his third studio album after Lawi and the highly-acclaimed Sunset in The Sky.
