Lawyer donates papers for Thyolo district mock exams

Lawyer Wester Kosamu has donated 150 reams of paper worth K2.2 million to the Thyolo District Education Office with an effort to boost to the education sector.

The donation will facilitate the printing of this year’s district primary school mock examinations, benefiting thousands of learners.

Speaking in an interview, Kosamu emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in improving the country’s education standards.

He urged all stakeholders, including the corporate sector and well-wishers, to actively contribute to addressing the challenges faced by schools.

“The education sector cannot thrive on government efforts alone. If more individuals and organizations step in to support where they can, we can make a real difference in shaping the future of our children,” he stated.

The donation follows a request from the Thyolo District Education Office and the Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) president, Willy Malimba, who also serves as the Chisawani Zone Primary Education Advisor (PEA).

Malimba highlighted the critical need for examination materials, noting that many schools struggle with inadequate resources, which often affects the smooth administration of mock and national exams.

Both Malimba and the district’s Principal Education Officer, Wallace Hastings Gofat, expressed gratitude to Kosamu and his family for their generosity. They noted that the donation will directly benefit approximately 11,641 Standard Eight learners, allowing them to sit for their mock exams free of charge.

“This is a commendable gesture. Mock exams play a crucial role in preparing learners for their final Primary School Leaving Certificate Examinations (PSLCE). Without such support, many pupils would face challenges in accessing these preparatory tests,” he said.
