Lazarus Chakwera
President of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and leader of opposition in Parliament, I would be the first one to realise that in the event of a sitting president resigning, the constitution does not provide for an early election.
Being the leader of opposition and president of the main opposition party, surely I would be familiar with such laws to avoid embarrassing myself.
Oh yes, baba O’ Chakwera, I would wallow my pride and admit that I goofed on that one and acted like Alice in wonderland.
If I were my good reverend, I would realise that even if mapuya Pitala would resign, the laws stipulate that the Vice-President should take over until elections are held.
I would realise that the only way a sitting President can be removed is through impeachment.
That is, of course, if I were the leader of opposition who is also the MCP president, but unfortunately it is just a mere wish.
