LDF builds new market at Mbulumbuzi
Local Development Fund executive director Sam Kakhobwe has said government wants vendors and buyers to trade in a conducive environment.
Kakhobwe said this on Friday when he visited the K244 million (about $610 000) market, which LDF is jointly building with Germany’s Kfw at Mbulumbuzi in Chiradzulu.
“People need to buy from a clean and good environment. Our market has kiosks, sheds, abattoir, modern toilets, electricity and water.
“We are impressed that vendors are pushing for its completion so that they should start using it. The only drawback is the water drainage system that is to be sorted out,” said Kakhobwe.
He said 85 percent of the work on the market, which is set to open mid December, has been completed.
Chiradzulu district commissioner Rosemary Moyo said the new market will help the district to generate revenue through market fees.
“We are expecting that small-scale traders, the district council and the local community will benefit from the new market. We are also expecting that the market will help us generate revenue at council level,” said Moyo.
