Police in Limbe have introduced traffic wardens who will be controlling traffic in all minibus terminals in Limbe.

Speaking during a ceremony on Friday, Limbe Police Station community policing coordinator Cagetan Singano said Limbe-based retail shop Blockbuster donated 50 reflectors for the traffic wardens.

Kachepa (R) hands over the reflectors to Nkhoma

“The community policing forum and traffic police office at the station saw the need to bring sanity in the chaotic parking that happens in Limbe, especially at Pafumbi, Kapenga and Blockbuster where minibus parking is a problem.

“We consulted Blockbuster who provided us with 50 reflectors to give to traffic wardens in consultation with minibus operators in all minibus stations where we received a warm welcome,” he said.

Limbe Police Station traffic officer Symon Kachepa said the police are working with all minibus owners and operators to make sure there is order in the depots so that congestion is dealt with once and for all.

Stanely Nkhoma, chairperson for Pafumbi minibus terminal, which is opposite Limbe Market, said the introduction of traffic wardens and the provision of reflectors will help them because some minibus drivers were being arrested for wrong parking.

“We are thankful to police and Blockbuster because the initiative will bring sanity on the road and in the parking areas.

“We are hopeful that drivers will be respecting the traffic wardens and the reflectors will make them look more legit. We will discuss with them on how they should be working,” he said.
