Love is in the air
It is again that time of the year when lovers spoil each other with affection in celebration of Valentine’s Day which falls on February 14.
Expensive meals, exchanging of gifts, wedding proposals and renewal of vows form the centre of the many indulgences that accompany the theme of the day. With 24 hours away from the Valentine’s Day, the mood is already telling.
As usual, a number of activities have been lined up to help couples celebrate the day in style. Among the notable events is the double Valentine’s Day event that has been organised by Sunbird Resorts and Hotels in partnership with HS Winehouse Beverages and Hospitality.
The events will take place in Blantyre and Lilongwe on the same day. Sunbird Mount Soche will host a dinner and dance, which will feature Piksy and Lulu while the one at Lilongwe Sunbird Capital will host a Valentine’s Masquerade Ball featuring Afro artists Kell Kay and Saint.
Sunbird Resorts and Hotels head of sales, marketing and distribution Temwa Kanjadza said the two events will offer unforgettable moments with performances from the leading artists which will go together with a sumptuous cuisine.
She said they are excited with the collaboration with HS Winehouse Beverages and Hospitality which will add colour to the events.

The 66th Grammys Recording Academy has hinted that Tyla’s debut album, which will be released soon, might be the next big African project to win a Grammy Award after Burna Boy’s Twice As Tall.
Tyla is a 22 year-old South African singing sensation who has made history at the 66th Grammys as the first winner in the Best African Performance category.
Her album featuring several top-notch American and Nigerian singers and is expected to drop in a few months.
Tyla beat Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr and Asake to become the inaugural winner of the Best African Performance category at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Tyla won the Grammy Award with her global 2023 hit-song Water, which was popular in Africa, US and the UK.
She said: “I made the song to tell the men that we are tired of their talks; they should just go straight to the point and give us what we want.”
Malawi’s Nyau music star Tay Grin submitted his Tcha video, but it was not nominated.
After the 2024 Grammy’s, the academy awards’ boss Harvey Mason Jnr said: “In order to win, you have to be a member of the academy, submit your music and members listen and evaluate it based on the art, not sales, not streams. It is based on art.” n

HS Winehouse Beverages and Hospitality co-director Darlington Ndasauka said as a brand they believe in fuelling the currency that brings joy among people.

In a separate interview yesterday, Saint said the event will offer the opportunity to participate in the love celebrations together with their fans.
“We mostly sing about love. This is a chance to reflect on the realities that love brings which are both positive and negative. This will be a special moment for us as artists and our fans too,” he said.
The Valentine’s Day spirit will linger on longer as Club Illusionz in Lilongwe will host a gig dubbed Old School Night on Friday which will feature the R ‘n’ B group Legends Band alongside DJ Nathan Tunes, VJ Ice, DJ Reubie and DJ Skippy.
