Luanar graduates 745 students
Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar) Vice-Chancellor Professor Emmanuel Kaunda says young graduates have a critical role in transforming the country in line with Malawi’s long-term development age, the Malawi 2063 (MW2063).
He was speaking at Luanar Bunda Campus in Lilongwe on Thursday at the institution’s seventh graduation where 745 students were conferred various degrees.
The vice-chancellor said in recognition of the graduates’ role in transforming the country, the institution introduced an initiative to provide short-term employment to graduates.
Said Kaunda: “I am proud to say that as I’m talking now, we have hired about 5 000 graduates and school leavers in a programme that we are undertaking on agriculture.”
He added that collaborative efforts among higher institutions are critical to the success of the MW2063.
In her remarks, Minister of Education Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima urged the graduates to align their goals with the national development agenda.
“A word to graduates is that they have to ensure that they actually familiarise themselves with the MW2063 Agenda so that they can align to it,” she said.
The seventh congregation has brought the number of graduating students under Luanar to about 3 000.
