Lulu opens up to collabo with Namadingo
Despite the seemingly bad blood betweem them, there is a possibility of a collaboration between two of the country’s most exciting music talents in Lulu and Patience Namadingo.
Last year, a section of music fans appeared to fan bad blood between them following utterances made by Namadingo on a possible mashup with his counterpart.
Fans, especially those loyal to Lulu, construed the utterances as a mark of disrespect for the Lilongwe-based star. Namadingo had to clarify what he said and called Lulu his brother.
Since then, the artistic relationship between the two has appeared cold.
But on Tuesday night, during an appearance on Galaxy FM’s trendy sports programme Tizame, Lulu said he is open to working on a song with Namadingo.
When the host of the talk show Dickson Chivwati Gondwe asked him if music fans should still wait for a mashup featuring him and Namadingo, Lulu declined, but said he is ready to do a fresh song with him.
“I am not into redoing my old songs. I can record a new song with him. I can work with everyone, including R Kelly. But it has to be a fresh project,” he said.
In a separate interview, the Mbambande creator said it is important for artists to work together, but cautioned on the need to be watchful of the intentions of any collaborations as music can make or break you.
On his part Namadingo reiterated the stance made by his counterpart that he is also open to working with anyone and that he hopes that soon or later the collaboration between them will materialise.
He said: “Right now I gather he is working on his album and I am also occupied with other things.
“Powerful collaborations come when you sit down and talk of what you want to bring about. They don’t come because you are talented artists. I hope we will find time to have that creative space.”
Both artists said they did not pay much attention to what people said about them on social media surrounding the controversy over the proposed mashup project last year.
