Lumeta gears for African Junior Tennis Championship

Malawi’s junior tennis star Chisomo Lumeta has said he is unfazed with rubbing shoulders with the continent’s greats at this year’s African Junior Tennis Under-18 Closed Championship which starts on Monday in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The competition has been organised by the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) in conjunction with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Tennis South Africa (TSA). It will run from February 18 to 23 2013 at University of Potchefstroom.

“This is the time I am going to show the other contestants the stuff I am made of. I did not do well recently in Namibia because of inadequate training, but this time I have prepared fully for the event,” wrote Lumeta in a Facebook chat on Tuesday.

According to CAT website, the African Junior Tennis Championship will have boys and girls categories in singles and doubles, using a Feed-In format.

Lumeta is also expected to take part in the African Junior Tennis Under-16 tournament to be hosted by Kenya in three weeks’ time.
