In its quest to contribute to the development of the country’s film industry, cinema screening company M-Theatres has organised a free workshop on film production on Saturday afternoon.

The workshop scheduled to start at 2:30pm  is part of M-Theatres’  Malawi Film Festival and Gala Night Awards slated for Saturday night at M-Theatres situated at Game Stores underground car park in Blantyre.

Jere :The workshop is free

Proprietor of M-Theatres Sunduzwayo Jere said the workshop is free and open to persons with keen interest in film production.

“We have decided to organise this workshop before the awards and after party at the Game Stores underground car park to sharpen skills of film producers,” said Sundu.

Among other areas, the workshop will look at movie script development and adaptation, cast selection, shooting and editing, sound effects and scenery selection.

Sundu added that there will also be a component of film marketing to help movie directors in the country find market for their skills and products.

“We don’t’ want a scenario in which people produce films and keep them in their homes, but market them. This is the reason why we have added the component of film marketing to help open doors for their careers,” said Sundu.

M-Theatres’ Malawi Film Festival will be celebrated under the theme Re-discovering Malawi and seeks to award deserving persons in the categories of best feature film, best short film, best director, best actor and actress.

It has received more than 15 movies in both categories of best feature film and best short film.

The gala night will be spiced up by music performance from Blaze, one of the country’s thriving youthful urban artists.

The Mwini Zinthu star told Nation Online that he was honoured to be accorded an opportunity to serve as guest artist at the Festival.
