In separate interviews yesterday, the zero-handicapped golfers said while they appreciate that it won’t be easy, they are determined to give it their best shot.

Said Rodrick: “We have had the feel of the course for two days and we are good to go.

“Of course the course is big and fast, but that’s no excuse because we are all playing away and, therefore, the playing field is level.”

On his part, Longwe said: “Eyeing the top slot might sound ambitious, but that is what I am gunning for, a top five finish wouldn’t be bad either.”

At least 72 golfers are scheduled to take part in the tournament which  is one of the prestigious golf events on the continent.

A statement from Golf Union of Malawi signed by president Gift Chidya Gondwe said the tournament provides the duo with an opportunity for international exposure.

“Their participation will also help raise the profile of Malawi golf and we wish them all the best,” reads the statement in part.

The golfers have been accompanied by team manager Khumbo Gift Mkandawire.
