Malawi family planning drive on track
Co-chair of the Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation, Melinda Gates, has praised Malawi for the progress it has made in implementing commitments the country made at the July 2012 London Summit on Family Planning.
Gates was speaking on the second day of the Women Deliver Conference currently underway in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Citing the example of the Chiefs Committee on Safe Motherhood, Gates commended Malawi Government’s commitment to improving access to maternal and child health.
“Putting women at the heart of the [development] agenda and delivering solutions that meet their needs will result in huge improvements in health, prosperity and quality of life,” she said.
National coordinator for the Safe Motherhood Initiative Dorothy Ngoma said government was committed to strengthening the family planning component of safe motherhood efforts countrywide.
