President Joyce Banda yesterday hosted Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre where they discussed how to strengthen their relations and enhance international cooperation.

The meeting, held in camera, lasted about two hours.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Rwandan envoy, Louise Mushikiwabo, said she discussed with the President, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Ephraim Chiume and Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs George Mkondiwa skills development, trade and how the two countries can create the right environment for business.

Said Mushikiwabo: “Rwanda and Malawi are moving into international cooperation agreements and other sectors to provide for our citizens.”

On his part, Chiume said the strengthened diplomatic relationship will also extend to information and communication technology.

Malawi hosts thousands of Rwandan refugees at Dzaleka Camp in Dowa who fled their country after the 1994 genocide.

  1. Thats the way to go Abiti, I hope the Taifas are watching this strategic relationship closely. We will be attacking from the south and Rwanda will be doing the same from the north side of Tanzania and squeeze the greedy Taifas in the middle. No single drop of water from lake Malawi should be taken away by the foolish Taifas.
