South African artist group Mpho Ya Badimo Creations will collaborate with Nzeka Arts in a talent exhibition scheduled for October 12 this year at Chichiri Museum in Blantyre.

In an interview on Monday, she said Malawians should look forward to having a lot of fun through arts.

She said her group will perform two theatre pieces  Double Bill and Modu, a capella music and contemporary dance. They will also carry out workshops for these disciplines.

“I am excited to be part of this exhibition. There will be a lot of fun and we invite everyone around Malawi to come through so that they don’t miss this beautiful experience,” said Kolapho.

Formed in 2019, Mpho Ya Badimo Creations undertakes various artistic works such as theatre, music, fashion and dance. The group is based in Limpopo, South Africa.

In a separate interview, Nzeka Arts director Harris Kamwendo said the coming of Mpho Ya Badimo Creations to their exhibition shows that Nzeka Arts is being recognised internationally.

“It also shows that we are on the right track since other creative companies are willing to collaborate with us. What this means for Malawi is that our artistic landscape will transform due to intercultural exchange of art,” he said.

Kamwendo said apart from performances from Mpho Ya Badimo Creations, they will also have other activities such as Mpalano, a dance fusion of Dikamawoko Cultural Troupe and Gap Connection Dance crew.

“We will also stage a play titled Mpanipani. We are also open to possible collaborations and partnerships with companies and organisations. We want this year’s exhibition to be more exciting. There will be other activities such as storytelling, poetry, among others,” he said.

Kamwendo has since called on Malawians to step forward and register to showcase their talent on a bigger platform.

Last year Nzeka Arts held a similar exhibition with performances from Mlakatuli Kenson, Chichiri Cultural Troupe, Blessed Dancers, Ingoma Dancers, Storytelling from Nzeka Arts duo of Cathy Sadimba and Desire Nkhavitha as well as a musical performance from Ein Paul.

Nzeka Arts, a grouping of artistic young people, aims at cultivating, nurturing and exposing talent through drama, poetry, music and dance.
