Said Chakwera: “I believe that my being invited to China will benefit Malawians, we have signed different MoUs with different institutions.

“It is now up to us to speed up the processes so that we yield from the MoUs, as that would help lift up Malawians to a level we all aspire. Our counterparts are very efficient and are ready to support us.”

At the expo, Chakwera signed MoU with Huawei and Chinese companies to construct the Marka-Bangula railway corridor and the Mangochi International Airport, among other deals.

The President also signed an agreement with University of Hunan, where Malawians will get scholarships to be trained in China.

The four-day event welcomed ‘Made in Africa’ products into China and aimed to boost business links between the two sides.

It featured 1 500 exhibitors, a 70 percent increase from the previous edition. Since its launch in 2019, the expo has become a major platform for strengthening economic and trade cooperation between China and Africa. The expo was held under the theme ‘Common development for a shared future”.
