Man suspected of defiling granddaughter
Police in Kasungu have arrested 69-year old Haward Theu for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old granddaughter.
Kasungu Police spokesperson Edwin Kaunda claimed in an interview on Monday that Theu committed the offence on January 10 this year at Kandamsika Village in the district.
Kaunda said on the day, the suspect went to his maize garden with his two grandchildren, the victim and a nine-year-old boy.
He said after returning from the garden, the suspect took the girl to his house, but was caught red-handed defiling the girl by the victim’s mother.
“The mother reported the matter to Chatoloma Police Unit from where she was referred to Kaluluma Health Centre for medical examination,” said Kaunda.
The suspect comes from sub-Traditional Authority Mnyanja in the district.
