Maneb delays French examiners’ payment

schoolAt least 29 French examiners in the 2013 Junior Certificate of Education examinations have expressed concern about delayed payment of allowances by the Malawi National Examination Board (Maneb)

The teachers told The Nation last week that they are yet to receive their payment.

Said one of the examiners who opted for anonymity: “We started claiming our money soon after the examinations were taken this year but they keep giving us excuses. Our fear is that we are heading towards year-end and they may not give us at all.”

St Patricks Secondary School teacher in French Thokozani Mcherewatha said this was not the first time that Maneb had delayed paying them their allowances.

“There are a number of times whereby Maneb has delayed in paying us,” he said.

Maneb public relations officer Simeon Maganga said the delays are caused by teachers who fill payment forms late.

“The teachers are given payment forms to fill at the right time but still others bring the forms late. This makes us delay their payment because we wait for all of them to hand in the forms and arrange their payment together” he said.

In an interview on Wednesday, Maganga said the teachers’ money had been posted in the teachers’ respective bank accounts last week Monday, but the teachers said they had not received their money yet.
