“We pledge to continue supporting the DHO’s efforts to contain the further spread of the disease,” he said.

Mangochi District Council chairperson Ivy Sande hailed the organisation for the donation.

“These items will help to save lives of cholera patients in the district,” she said.

Sande appealed to other well-wishers to emulate the example set by RiseUp Malawi.

Mangochi District Hospital representative Mphatso Jussa said the district had run out of the Ringer’s Lactate tubes.

“There are many health facilities in the district that have no Ringer’s Lactate tubes,” he said.

RiseUp Malawi is non-governmental organisation that provides educational support to orphans and other vulnerable children in the district.

As of Sunday, Mangochi District had registered 1 099 cholera cases and 26 deaths.

According to the Ministry of Health, the country has registered 8 111 cholera cases and 241 deaths since the first case was recorded this year at Machinga District Hospital.

The ministry has attributed poor water and food hygiene to the outbreak, among others.
