Market Malawi in China, govt tells embassy staff

Government has asked employees working at Malawi Embassy in China to market the country as an attractive destination for investors.

Minister of Information and Civic Education Moses Kunkuyu said this when he visited the embassy on Friday.

He urged the employees to gather as much information as they can on business opportunities in Malawi.

Kunkuyu also asked them to look for markets for Malawi’s products in China, taking advantage of that country’s booming economy.

He said Malawi is looking for alternative markets for its agricultural products to shore up its foreign exchange reserves.

“You must help us with information on how we can penetrate China markets with our crops,” said Kunkuyu.

He said his ministry will also facilitate free flow of trade information to different foreign missions and offices.

Malawi deputy ambassador to China, Henry Mumba, thanked Kunkuyu for making time to meet the embassy officials.

“There a good market for agricultural products in China. What is required is our farmers should maximise their productivity,” said Mumba.—Mana
