Maso Awards unveils 2024 nominees

Maso Awards on Friday unveiled the 2024 fourth award nominees at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre. 

Making the announcement, curators said the public selected the nominees after their demonstration of talent, dedication and innovation in their work.

Symon: We have added categories

 Maso Awards public relations officer Sivy Symon said this year’s awards will include additional categories to accommodate both genders while focusing on exporting Malawian talent.

She said: “We have added eight more categories and diversified some by gender. For example, the best social media content creator used to include males and females in the same category, but this year, we have specified them by gender. The same with gospel artist.

 “As our theme of exporting arts social-economic growth and development, we are more focused on exporting Malawian talent.”

The new categories include best fashionable celebrity, best local sound act and best female gospel act.

Artists such as Jetu and Fada Moti have been nominated in the best up-and-coming artist category. Others  include Gwamba, Temwah, Onesimus, Kell Kay, Driemo and Theresa Phondo.

Tamanda Njenjenje, a fan who attended the ceremony, said such events provide inspiration to the arts and entertainment industry as artists are celebrated for their hard work.

“It is important to celebrate our artists who put effort to entertain us. I am looking forward to attending the main award gala in December,” she said.

Names of the nominees are available on the Maso Awards official website where fans can vote for their preferred acts and categories in accordance with the competition’s guidelines.

The main award gala will take place on December 28 at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.

Maso Awards was established in 2021 to promote and embrace arts and entertainment in Malawi.

The annual ceremony has not only acknowledged excellence, but also inspired artists to strive for greatness.
