Matabwa, Shonga win Medical Students Fundraising Golf
A team comprising Madalo Matabwa and James Shonga on Saturday won a Medical Students Association (MSA) fundraising Golf Tournament at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC).
The tournament, which attracted nine teams, was organised as part of a drive to raise funds towards hosting the first international medical students conference under the theme ‘Violence Against Women: The Hidden Health Burden.’
The duo amassed 42 points to pip BSC golf captain Andrew Ngomwa and Stevie Kamanga by a point.
Noel Mapfurutsa and Mirage Mohammed were third with 37 points.
Speaking on behalf of the winning team, Matabwa said after a slow start on the first two holes, they reorganised themselves and played with more passion and invention.
“We were very relaxed and complemented each other well,” he said.
MSA president Parth Patel thanked the golfers for supporting the cause.
“Overall, I thank BSC for accepting our request to host this tournament. This was our second fundraising event and we really appreciate,” he said.
Asked if the tournament met their expectations, Patel said: “Not 100 percent but surely it has been worth it and we still have some fundraising activities coming up.”
The international medical students conference is set for March 10-14 in Blantyre.
