Minister of Tourism and Culture Rachel Mazombwe Zulu and Malawi Fashion Week (MFW) chief executive officer Dawa Loga- Lemberger, are among the people that have been invited to attend this year’s Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) scheduled to take place from August 1 to 3.

A letter sent to Mazombwe Zulu and Loga- Lemberger from AFWL states that as pioneers of Malawi Fashion Week, the minister will be awarded for supporting the initiative and Loga-Lemberger for being a Malawian fashion icon.

“The aim of this event is to showcase the best of African arts and fashion to the most influential people globally, including First Ladies, ambassadors, Members of Parliament, celebrities and VIPs. We would also be recognising those who have contributed to the growth of African fashion, youth empowerment and empowerment of women in Africa and we are pleased to announce that you have emerged winner of the African Achievers Awards,” reads the letter to Mazombwe Zulu.

In an interview, Loga- Lemberger said she is grateful that she and her partner Chikumbutso Mtumodzi have been recognised internationally for initiating the first ever Malawi Fashion Week.

“Our mission is to embrace fashion in the global village and as such we are humbled that we have introduced the designers who participated to the world by being recognized on ABC, BBC and all Associated Press publications such as Yahoo News and The News Tribune,” said Loga-Lemberger.

The AFWL exhibition is in aid of youth empowerment in Africa, to set up an endowment fund for the arts, especially to raise money for emerging designers and artists as well as talented artistic students.
