MCP lawmaker backsfresh plane crash probe
Lilongwe Mpenu member of Parliament (MP) Eisenhower Mkaka (Malawi Congress Party-MCP) on Thursday supported calls for a fresh investigation into the June 10 2024 military plane crash that killed vice-president Saulos Chilima and eight others.
Speaking in Parliament in Lilongwe, the former MCP secretary general said the new investigation could help settle any uncertainties surrounding the incident.

“The three reports which were presented here were dismissed by our colleagues from the other side [DPP], so the new government can stand as an independent arbiter in the matter by instituting a fresh investigation. We, too, want to know the truth,” said Mkaka.
UTM Party leader in the House Patricia Kaliati had on Wednesday urged the new Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration to institute a fresh investigation into the plane crash that killed UTM Party president.
She said UTM Party is still eager to know what caused the plane crash, further alleging that someone forced the nine deceased people to board a plane “which had no fuel”.

Chilima and eight others, including former first lady Patricia Dzimbiri died in a plane crash in Nthungwa Forest in Viphya Plantation on their way to Nkhata Bay to attend the funeral of former Attorney General and politician Ralph Kasambara.
Meanwhile, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Charles Mhango has said he is reviewing the report that a Commission of Enquiry into the matter produced to determine whether there will be need for a fresh enquiry or any other action.
