The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has hired new staff members to replace those that either resigned or failed to report for duties in Zomba,

Machinga, Balaka and Phalombe Districts.

This comes after concerns were raised that some individuals are doing multiple jobs while others are being moved from one registration centre to another to cover for the deficit.

Confirming of the new development, MEC Chief Elections Officer, Willie Kalonga said the new recruits are camera operators and quality control

managers.

“We are going to train 48 QCMs and 44 COPs this Saturday (14th September) and out of this number, 59 will be deployed to the said

districts on Sunday,” he said.

Kalonga added that the other remaining staff will be on reserve for future registration exercises.

The current phase of registration is expected to end on September 24.
