Twelve contestants are set to battle for the Miss Malawi crown tomorrow at an event scheduled for Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.

In the run-up to the contest, the girls have been undergoing conditioning and fitness workouts at a boot camp at Kambiri Beach in Salima.

Business organising officer for the pageant, Clara Tinyade Saeluzika, said the girl’s camp is going on well.

“We have engaged Ishmael Gringer Makawa as Miss Malawi fitness trainer. He is conditioning the queens to keep their bodies in shape and also to help them stand the heat on the final day. Everything is going on well. We are checking their characters, working on their diets and other aspects,” she said.

The 2022 Miss Malawi pageantry has been organised by Alpha Arts.

Saeluzika said contestants will arrive in Lilongwe on the same day of the event to avoid distraction.

First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera will grace the occasion as the guest of honour. Two weeks ago Chakwera hosted the beauties at the State House.

Initially, there were 30 contestants, but they were later trimmed to 20. The final 12 will compete on the red carpet event tomorrow evening.

In an interview, Makawa said the beauty queens are responding well to the sessions.

“We have been doing alot of sessions, ranging from aerobics to Karate. It is about motivating them her to remain fit and healthy ahead of the big day. They need to be focused. That required a good environment to get them into shape,” he said.
