Miss Malawi pageant gets K50m, organisers upbeat
Miss Malawi beauty pageant organisers have expressed optimism about the future and consistency of the event, saying recent support from partners has given them renewed hope to sustain the platform and empower more young women.
The organisers said in Lilongwe on Wednesday, where Goshen City Trust officially announced a K50 million sponsorship towards the pageant’s 2025 edition.

The development comes just a week after the organisers secured a K20 million sponsorship from Premier Bet Malawi.
Miss Malawi Governance Board director of international relations Tadala Chihana said the pageant has long struggled with finances.
“Miss Malawi over the years has grappled with inconsistencies due to lack of financial capacity to sustain the office. So, this sponsorship is crucial to the initiative and it is a new beginning for the pageant to become a consistent and committed platform,” she said.
Chihana said the support from both Goshen City Trust and all other partners is not only timely, but will also change the perception of the value the brand and recognition of young people’s efforts.
“Sometimes young people look like they are not zealous enough due to lack of capacity. But we are confident that with this support and the young team behind it, Miss Malawi is starting a new chapter of consistency and commitment,” she said.
Goshen City Trust board chairperson Charles Kaunda said their organisation is committed to supporting youth-led initiatives and giving back to the community. He said Miss Malawi has the potential to empower young people and encourage their involvement in national development.
“Miss Malawi is more than just a beauty pageant. It is a platform that can inspire youth and promote their participation in development efforts in line with the country’s long term development strategy Malawi 2063,” he said.
Kaunda urged organisers to be innovative and find ways that will make the platform go beyond a mere contest.
The winner of Miss Malawi 2025 will walk away with K30 million, a paid residence for her year of reign and K10 million to carry out her duties in office.
Commenting on the increased cash prize, Miss Malawi chief operations officer Godfrey Kambewa said the aim is to shift how people view the pageant by turning it into a life-changing opportunity for winners.
“We believe K30 million is a significant amount for a young person. It has the potential to change their life, help them achieve their goals and show that Miss Malawi is an impactful platform,” he said.
The grand finale will be held on December 13 in Lilongwe at Pearl Convention Centre.
