Mr and Miss Bunda 2024 crowned

Kelvin Carter Malowa and Atupele Chisoni Hanahela were on Saturday crowned Mr and Miss Bunda, respectively.

Malowa is a third-year student pursing a bachelor of science in nutrition and food science at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources Bunda Campus while Hanahela is a first-year student doing bachelor of science in veterinary medicine.

Speaking in an interview, the newly crowned Miss Bunda promised to use her title to make a positive impact in the student community at the college.

“It feels incredibly rewarding to be crowned Miss Bunda. It is a privilege to represent and be a role model to others and I plan to use my title to promote important positive causes in education, health and be a voice for positive change,” she said.

In a separate interview, Mr Bunda said he was honoured and plans to make a positive impact by promoting mental health awareness.

“I have struggled with mental health issues myself, and through this title, I will stand up for mental health awareness and fundraise for resources that will help fellow students going through the same,” said Malowa.

He encouraged fellow students to always believe in themselves as they work towards different things.

“I want to encourage others to embrace their experiences as they believe in themselves, staying dedicated to their goals and fearlessly expressing their unique talents and personalities as they soar high in the world,” said Malowa.

Bunda’s entertainment director Benson Gwiriza said they were satisfied with the results of the contests despite some challenges.

“It was very demanding to organise such an event. We are satisfied with the results and we are confident that they will represent Bunda well,” he said.

Seven girls and six boys battled for the Mr. and Miss Bunda in seven categories, namely introduction, casual, sports, traditional, winter, office and dinner.

The event was spced up with music performances by various artists, including Gwamba, Saint Realest, Kineo and Aidfest Madness, Teddy Makadi, Fada Moti, Twnda and P-Tunez.

Some of the sponsors of this year’s Mr. and Miss Bunda event were Tecno and mobile service providers TNM.
