MRA makes changes in senior management positions

Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has made changes in senior management positions following the public tax collector’s decision not to renew contracts of five managers.

In a statement, MRA, which announced the confirmation of Cornelius Kakwesa as commissioner of customs and excise, said it has not renewed contracts of five senior managers, including head of corporate affairs division Steve Kapoloma.

The other four managers are director of information and communications technology (ICT) division Max Mlomba, director of modernisation division Nancy Nyamilandu, director of tax investigation division Fatch Valeta and deputy director of ICT Michael Chibaka.

Reads part of the statement: “Management would like to sincerely thank them for contributions made to the authority during their period of service and wish them success in their future endeavours.”

Apart from Chibaka, whose contract will expire on February 28 2025, the other four have wound up their work on December 31 2024, according to the statement.

The changes have seen Joseph Khonje and Wilma Chalulu have been appointed acting heads of modernisation division and corporate affairs division, respectively, effective January 1 2025.

Meanwhile, Kapoloma has expressed gratitude for the support he received from MRA for the past 20 years.

“Together, we have enhanced MRA’s reputation and promoted voluntary tax compliance even among micro taxpayers,” he said.

MRA is an agency of the Malawi Government, whose main responsibility is to assess, collect and account for tax revenues.
