In an interview after the event, Muhlako wa Alhomwe Central Region chairperson Jubeck Muonjeza said they decided to start their fundraising drive with a gospel concert because the cultural grouping is also God fearing.

“The Lhomwes are God-fearing people. We wanted to put God first. These artists do not just perform, but also minister God’s word,” he said.

Muonjeza said they have organised six more live shows nationwide.

“Our aim is to bring Malawians together and closer to our culture because not everyone can come to the Mulhako wa Alhomwe Festival,” he said.

Muonjeza said they want to raise K180 million which will cater for most of the needs during the festival.

In a separate interview, one of the patrons, Evelyn Ngala from Ndirande said she was happy to have attended the show.

“After hearing about Muhlako show, I thought that I would find gondolosi, beads and others. But I have realised that this was purely a celebration of God’s word,” she said.
