Mzava confirms contract termination

South Africa-based Malawian defender Limbikani Mzava has confirmed receiving a contract termination letter from Betway Premiership side Magesi FC, but said he is yet to sign for it.

The former Flames captain said he is still examining the contents of the letter before determining the way forward.

He said: “What happened was that when the immediate-past coach [Clinton Larsen] resigned, I was called to a meeting by management where they alleged that since he left, it appeared that I did not want to play, which was not true because we had not played any game by that time.

“After that, I was being put on the bench, then later on, that’s when they gave us the contract termination letters.

“ I should sign it this coming week and then map the way forward, but as of now, I am still here.”

According to farpost.co.za, the club issued termination letters to seven players, offering them a three-month salary payout to facilitate their departure.

Magesi, who were promoted from the second-tier league at the start of the season, anchor the 16-team Premier League with seven points from 13 matches.

The club’s media officer, Mmaphuti Mashamaite was quoted by farpost.com as having said  they will issue a statement on the issue.

Meanwhile, Magesi have hired Owen Da Gama as Larsen’s replacement in a bid to avoid relegation.

Larsen led the club to Carling Knockout Cup trophy glory after beating Mamelodi Sundowns in the final.

Mzava was one of the only two Malawian players in the South African flagship league. The other one is Frank Gabadinho Mhango, who plays for Marumo Gallants.
