New Auditor General hired
President Peter Mutharika has appointed Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) director of finance Harold Mwala as the new Auditor General.
Mwala, whose confirmation awaits Parliament’s confirmation, replaces Stephenson Kamphasa who joined the National Audit Office (NAO) on June 12 2013 until his contract expired last week.
In a letter The Nation has seen, Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet Lloyd Muhara said the appointment is with effect from June 18, 2018.
“Please take note that your appointment is subject to confirmation by the National Assembly in line with Section 184 (3) of the Malawi Constitution,” the letter reads.
NAO spokesperson Rabson Kagwamminga asked for more time before commenting on the matter.
Efforts to speak to Mwala proved futile as his phone went unanswered after several attempts.
