New drama series set to premiere
Six MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) Malawian graduates have teamed on a new television drama series titled Insecurities.
The MTF graduates featuring in the series are Bryan Magombo as director, Sarah Mgwaluko as assistant director and script Editor, Jonathan Kapumba as director of photography), Chisomo Kawaga in the role of editor, Melissa Babil as assistant producer and Asante Mbaimbai as script writer and producer.
The series has been produced and directed by Mbaimbai under Nana Films Production Company and it explores themes of love, relationships and self-discovery in contemporary Malawi.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, Mbaimbai said the series intends to teach people how best to handle stress that comes due to relationship insecurities.
She said: “The series is expected to spark meaningful conversations about relationships and identity in Malawi. The production will showcase Malawian talent and stories, contributing to the growth of the local film industry.
“We want to tell stories that resonate with the audience.”
Mbaimbai was part of the 2022 MTF cohort and she also had a stint at the New York Film Academy and she has previously been involved in other productions such as Illuminating Malawian Stories, Inspiring the Future and she was also the production coordinator for Zambia’s popular television series Zuba.
“I have gained valuable experience in the cultural and creative sector, with a focus on filmmaking. My journey with MTF equipped me with practical skills in screenwriting, editing, producing and directing,” said Mbaimbai.
Insecurities is set to premiere on July 26 at Kweza Arts in Lilongwe. Other names featuring in the production include Bensam, Esther Bonyonga, Tumpe Mtaya alias Phwedo, Andrew Lambulira, Godfrey Chimdzeka, Madalitso Kafamtenganji, Mbaimbai and Harriet Mitawa.
Speaking in a separate interview, Kawaga said her experience at the MTF has opened up new career avenues and the upcoming series is a testimony of the skills and experience they have gained.
She said: “My work has improved. My involvement in the production of Mpali television series in Zambia opened up new things for me. The environment allowed me to interact and learn from professionals who have great experience in the filmmaking trade.”
The MTF academy is a MultiChoice Africa filmmaking training platform that attracts participation from budding filmmakers from across Africa. Since its inception over eight years ago, about 15 filmmakers from Malawi have taken part in the training.
