Community members in Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwabulambya in Chitipa District have commended government for constructing new school blocks under the Malawi Education Reform Programme.

Under the project, government has constructed a classroom block at Chimwemwe and Lwambo primary schools in T/A Mwabulambya.

In an interview on Monday, village head Chitala II described the completion of a school block at Chimwemwe Primary School as a major milestone that will provide a better learning environment for learners.

“I will sensitise the community on the importance of taking care of the new infrastructure,” he said.

Chimwemwe Primary School Mother Group vice-chairperson Loveness Mtambo said the new classroom block will provide a safer and more comfortable learning space for girls.

“Many girls miss school due to overcrowding, especially during their monthly periods,” she said.

The school’s parent and teacher association member Geoffrey Siyeni welcomed the project.

“We faced significant challenges during extreme weather conditions. Many learners were forced to miss classes, leading to poor performance,” he said.

On his part, Lwambo Primary School head teacher Estone Ng’ambi commended the initiative, saying the school needed additional classrooms.

“We have by-laws and regulations to protect the infrastructure and ensure it continues to serve future generations,” he said.

Loveness Kayuni, a Standard Seven learner at Lwambo Primary School, said the new classroom will motivate girls to remain in school.

“I encourage my fellow learners to take care of this beautiful infrastructure as it will help us achieve our dreams,” she said.

Chitipa district director of education and sports McGiven Chinyamula said the district was allocated 40 school blocks, with nine completed in the first phase.

“The initiative will improve the learning environment and provide quality time for teachers in managing learners,” he said
