In his remarks, the organisation’s spokesperson Ibrahim Omar said they felt obliged to help the survivors.
He said most of the affected households lost everything, including food.
Said Omar: “Some of these survivors are fasting during this holy month of Ramadan.
“Therefore, we are distributing food and non-food relief items, ranging from flour, sugar, salt, cooking oil, blankets and utensils to support them during Ramadan.”
He also said they are constructing a school at Makawa to empower children with education.
“As we teach them to do charity, we should also give them formal education. This will help them in future to be responsible citizens,” said Omar.
One of the beneficiaries, Daniel Aliseni, who has sight disability, from Chipoka Village in Traditional Authority Mponda, said the food will help his eight children.
He said he lost his house and other necessities during the disaster. He said he is seeking refuge in his sister’s house.
“I ask well-wishers to help me with building materials,” said Aliseni.
Another beneficiary, Emma Willie from Mpomba Village said she now has food for her family after spending days without taking a proper meal.
“God bless the donors,” she said.
Cyclone Jude affected 11 districts in the Southern Region, including Mangochi.
