Nice Trust rallies youths to register for elections
National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust Kasungu district programmes officer Pilirani Chaguza has called upon youths in the district to register in large numbers to exercise their right to vote in the 2025 General Elections.
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) yesterday kicked off the first of the three-phased voter registration in Kasungu and 13 other district councils. The first phase will run from November 9 to 22.

Speaking on Sunday during an awareness and sensitisation rally at Chankhungu in Kasungu West Constituency, Chaguza said the Nkhotakota benefits from climate smart public worksforthcoming elections are a chance for the youth to shape the future they desire to have.
“Voting is one of the rare moments that guarantees citizen participation in shaping the democratic destiny of a nation. This is your chance as youths to take part in making a very important decision for your country. So, we must register and vote,” said Chaguza.
He said the new electoral laws demand that a person must register with the National Registration Bureau to qualify as a voter, hence, asked the youth to ensure they have the national identity card.
Chaguza warned against acts of violence and called for peace and tolerance during the entire electoral process.
“We must refrain from being used as agents of violence. Youths must be champions of peace,” he said.
Group village head Serenje encouraged women and girls to go beyond mere voting, urging them to contest as candidates.
“For girls and women, your participation in elections must not be limited to voting. This is our opportunity to also contest as candidates,” he said
