Nice Trust urges Lilongwe eligible voters to register

National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust has called on Lilongwe Urban residents to register before the voter registration exercise closes today.

Lilongwe Nice district programmes officer Hajira Ali said this on Sunday during a football bonanza at Likuni that sought to mobilise eligible voters.

She said registration is the only way eligible people will be allowed to vote in the September 16 2025 General Election.

Ali said the event was part of Nice Trust’s efforts to raise awareness about the ongoing voter registration.

“The campaign aims to encourage eligible voters to register. We organised the football bonanza between Elephant United and and Likuni Sounders because football draws huge crowds,” she said.

Lilongwe City Kamphuno Constituency civic education and voter assistant Michael Banda commended Nice Trust for the initiative.

“This effort will encourage people to register in large numbers,” he said.

A Likuni resident Sigere Mudala also hailed the initiative, saying some people felt discouraged to register due to unmet expectations from elected leaders.

“We have tried to change leaders through voting, but we feel shortchanged. This has discouraged many from registering. However, this campaign gives us renewed hope,” she said.

The voter registration awareness campaign is part of the Boma Lathu Programme funded by the European Union.
