Nigerian nabbed for attempting to export Cocaine

The Police in Lilongwe have arrested a Nigerian national, Humphrey Dubem Okoro for attempting to export cocaine through Kamuzu International Airport.

Okoro, 29, who was expected to fly on Ethiopian Airlines on his way to Bamako in Mali, was caught on Tuesday after his bag exposed the dangerous drug while passing through the police X-ray machine at the airport.

KIA police publicist Sapulain Chitonde said after noticing that the police had discovered the drug, the suspect tried to flee from the airport using a taxi.  However, he was immediately apprehended.

“The Cocaine drug which weighs 0.7 Kilograms (700 grams) was found concealed in a black plastic paper at the back of his checked-in laptop bag,” Chitonde said.

Meanwhile, the suspect is still in police custody pending further investigations and will appear before court where he will answer charges of attempting to Export Dangerous Drugs contravening Section 11 (A) regulation 19 of Dangerous Drugs Act. 

Two weeks ago, police at KIA arrested a business woman for allegedly attempting to export about eight kilograms of Apomorphine drug.

The woman, Harriet Namate was arrested while she was trying to board an Ethiopian Airways to Mumbai India.

Director of Airport Police Securities Mavuto Chiumbuzo has since warned would be offenders that police are on alert to crack down on all those involved in the illicit business.
