If I were

Noel Masangwi

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), director of special events, I would realise that confiscating T-shirts and cloth from unruly members is not enough to enforce discipline in the party.

If I were Masangwi, I would realise that the party members who caused mayhem during the election of Blantyre City Council mayor last week were an embarrassment not only to the party, but also to its leadership which has time and again stressed that it will not tolerate acts of indiscipline.

How I wish I were the DPP director of special events, because I would realise that there is need for the party to take stern action on the party ruffians other than just confiscating T-shirts and cloth.

If only I were Masangwi, I would further appreciate that the picture being painted is that DPP has not changed and is still involved in acts of violence.

I would also realise that as long as the unruly members were spotted donning T-shirts inscribed ‘100 percent Noel Masangwi’, the assumption is that they were sent by me unless, of course, I take meaningful action as a senior party official to show that such behaviour is no longer tolerated under President Peter Mutharika’s leadership.

That is if only I were one Noel Masangwi. Fortunately, I am not him!
